Особенное внимание уделяется вопросам общей и специальной теории музыки, философии музыки, психологии музыки, культуральному аспекту музыкальной деятельности (касающемуся исследований проблем вовлечения человека в мир культуры, в социально-культурное творчество), видам функционирования музыки в обществе и т.д. Входит в перечень рецензируемых научных изданий, в которых должны быть опубликованы основные научные результаты диссертаций на соискание ученой степени кандидата или доктора наук. Индексируется в Российском индексе научного цитирования.
