Annotation
The uniqueness of Korean ceramics stems from the austere humility of the earthenware, the jade-green color of Goryeo celadon, the wit of Joseon buncheong ware and the refined beauty of Joseon white porcelain. This book consists of seven chapters. Chapter I introduces the elementary concepts of ceramics and ceramics making, and chapters II to VI trace the history of ceramics from the Neolithic Age to the Joseon period. The author has attempted to showcase ceramics pieces that have undergone academic verification, and delved into the excavation of kiln sites and historical records of ceramics from the Goryeo to the Joseon periods in an attempt to provide background information and convey the full picture of Korean ceramics. Chapter VII deals with the history of the term onggi, which encompasses Korea’s renowned food culture of fermentation and long-term storage.

Annotation
This study examines the factors explaining middle class participation in the movement for democratization. It develops a complex argument to explain the participation of different sectors of the middle class in the democracy movement in the mid-1980s incorporating both structural and cultural explanations. Especially concerned was the author with the influence of Confucianism and Christianity and the development of post-materialist values on the political culture of Korea, and how the interaction of different but not necessarily conflicting sets of values has influenced different sectors of the middle class to take action against the authoritarian government and in support of democracy.

Description Why was Korea separated? Why have the Koreans been unable to overcome the line of demarcation separating them over the last 60 years? Why did the Korean War break out? Many scholars studying contemporary Korean history have been conducting a detailed analysis of these very subjects. Traditionalists tend to place blame on the Communist Bloc, including Soviet Russia, while revisionists see the responsibility lying with United States anticommunist imperialism. Throughout this controversial process, Korean scholars have been neglectful of a self in dealing with these issues. Basedon historicism, this book considers at its core a series of tragic Korean historical events as civil or internal conflicts and aims to reflect on Koreas own historical mistakes and errors. In this respect, this study can be categorized as being rerevisionist. This book was written with the conviction that the Korean Peninsula was not divided by other, external powers but separated from within.

Annotation
This is the third work from acclaimed photographer Oh Sang-jo, who has dedicated his life to preserving Korean culture through his unique style of photography. Particularly passionate about preserving Koreas disappearing cultural history, Oh Sang-jo published this book only after the culmination of exhaustive research and trips to the field. Many of the photographs are of historical subjects no longer in existence, thus adding to this work a significant historical value. The trees captured in this book represent without exception a Korean epic. They tell specific stories from within a long history about how the trees and people lived together; stories that represent both the histories of single villages and of the trials and tribulations of Koreas yesteryear. THE DANGSAN TREE is a nostalgic throwback to the days when things were not so complex and hurried, and lifes essence and mysteries more appreciated.

The long-distance Baekdu-daegan hiking trail provides a great opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts living in Korea and abroad to hike their way through a 735-kilometer geographical repository of culture and history that continuously yields new discoveries and experiences in what is a still largely unexplored part of a busy peninsula.
