Annotation
This is the first volume fully theorizing the Korean folk dance tradition. Folk dances from various regions are introduced and their characteristics are discussed. The underlying spirit of Korean folk dance comes from Eastern religion and philosophy, and its profound spiritual background arises from the rhythm of nature, which arises from the state of self-renunciation. Korean dance reflects an accord between labor and art which connects work, shaman rites, amusements, and drama into one comprehensive art. Each dance movement is a condensation of power, as is the form and composition of the dance.
