Presentation of the Book “Alyp Abai. Congeniality”
On December 5, 2025, at the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a presentation of the book “Alyp Abai. Congeniality” by Sauytbek Abdrakhmanov — a prominent literary scholar and laureate of the State Prize — took place as part of the concluding events dedicated to the 180th anniversary of Great Abai.
The book “Alyp Abai” is the first comprehensive work entirely devoted to Abai’s translation heritage. Until now, only one separate study on this subject had been published — Zaki Akhmetov’s 1954 research “Lermontov and Abai”, which focused exclusively on Abai’s translations of Mikhail Lermontov.
The new book provides a complete examination of Abai’s translations, including works by Pushkin, Lermontov, Krylov, Goethe, Byron, Schiller, Mickiewicz, Bunin, Delvig, Polonsky, and other authors. Not a single poem was left unaddressed. The edition was published in three languages — Kazakh, Russian, and English.
The publication offers an extensive study of the artistic nature and spiritual mission of Abai’s work, as well as its resonance with world literature.
“This book, published for the 180th anniversary of Abai and offering readers a new perspective on the poet’s translation legacy, will become a significant contribution to the development of Abaitanu,” said the moderator of the presentation, well-known aitys poet, Doctor of Philology, and Member of Parliament Amanzhol Altai.
The event was attended by statesmen and public figures, deputies of the Senate and the Mazhilis, representatives of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, intellectuals, prominent writers, Abai scholars, lecturers, and students.
