Millet işleri de ancak milli kararlara dayanmakla, milletin genel duygularına tercüman olmakla gerçekleşir.’ Siz Osmanlı ülkesinde, ‘milli kararlara dayanmak’, ‘meşruluğu’ bunda aramak ne demektir bilir misiniz? Padişahı ve Halifeyi silmek, hiçe saymak demektir! Mustafa Kemal, Amasya Tamimi’nden itibaren, Osmanlı meşruluğunu reddetmiş, tarihsel meşruluğu önemsemiştir. Buysa ‘ihtilâl’in ta kendisidir.”
