In 2006, developing countries in the Asia-Pacific region are expected to experience economic growth of 7.7%, compared to 7.6% in 2005. This is higher than the forecast in the "2006 Asia Development Outlook" published in April 2006. This is due to the accelerated economic growth in the People's Republic of China, as well as the increased growth projections for the larger economies in South Asia. In 2007, economic growth is expected to be 7.1%, slightly lower than this year, as demand in industrialized countries slows down. The update suggests that developing countries in Asia should make necessary adjustments now, while domestic and external conditions are favorable, to mitigate future threats to economic growth. The update also addresses trade issues that could impact developing Asia in the long term
