Part of a series offering a historical overview of the development of the Kyujanggak library during the Joseon era (1392-1897) in what is now Korea. During the colonial period (1910-1945), Japanese authorities forcibly occupied the Daehan Empire and abolished Kyujanggak. The library's books became part of the (Japanese) Governor General’s office, then Gyeongseong Imperial University. Today they are housed in Seoul National University
