The National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan participated in International Action “Hour of the Earth”.

On March 28, the National Academic Library of RK joined the International Action “Hour of the Earth” for the first time. Illumination of the building was switched off for one hour. As the Director General of NABRK Berdigalieva R.A. mentioned, the action's aim was to attract attention of Astana citizens and all the Kazakhstan people to ecology issues and reasonable using of natural resources, energy-efficient technologies.

The World “Hour of the Earth” is conducted for the second year on initiative of the World Foundation of Wild Nature. Idea of switching off electricity for one hour as a token of solidarity in struggling for environmental protection embodied in the Australian city Sydney in 2007 first. This year “Hour of the Earth” extended its limits: citizens of Almaty, Astana and other Kazakhstan cities joined the action's participants. Illumination of city symbolic facilities was switched off by order of Imangali Tasmagambetov, Astana Akim. Thus, lights of Astana's symbol Baiterek were turned off during “Hour of the Earth”. Initiative of the capital was supported by other oblast centers and big cities of Kazakhstan.
