Funds formation department

Ideology of the department is development of scientifically proved formation policy and safety of library fund of NABRK. In basis of library acquisition technology lies subject and typological plan of acquisition, which is general plan document, that defines a level of structure complexity of acquisition and influences on its main components: selection of editions for funds system, system of gathering of the information about thematic and subject characteristics of editions, system of duplication, system of purchase sources, system of account and registration of editions.

Achievement of completeness of funds, both on traditional, and on electronic data carriers is both strategic, and thematic problem of library. Priority in formation of funds is given to gathering of information about Kazakhstan, its achievements, nature, geography, industry, society and culture, etc. Principles of formation are: scientific character, universality, completeness, urgency, efficiency, availability. Library receives new books every month. Also funds are replenished with proceedings and author's abstracts. Acquisition of some funds is carried out due to rare and donative editions having first of all scientific value. Except books, the library receives about 2 thousand titles of domestic, foreign periodicals on state and other languages.

The fund of electronic documents is part of cumulative library fund and functions in interaction with its other funds.

We grant users information on CD-ROM and DVD-ROM electronic editions of dictionaries, textbooks, books, encyclopedias on various branches of knowledge, electronic versions of periodicals, collections of electronic editions on mastering state and foreign languages; electronic libraries and catalogues of the largest information centers of the world, interactive training courses and many other things. By June of 2008 the electronic fund totals more than 8 thousand disks.

Fund formation department is engaged in studying of queries of our users, analysis of refusals, carrying out of monitoring of our collections' necessity. On the basis of received data experts organize subscription to newspapers and magazines, get necessary printed and electronic editions.

Electronic catalogue department

Electronic catalog is conducted in state, Russian, and foreign languages.

On 01.01.2009 there are 96410 bibliographic records.

We receive methodical instruction on UDC from VINITI at the Russian Academy of Science. Experts of Electronic catalogue department participate in annual seminars on UDC " UDC. Technique of application ". On April, 16-18^th of 2008 in Moscow on the next seminar we exchanged experience and received consultations on following themes:

- Modern condition of UDC tables and changes made in them during last time

- technique of indexing of the information on UDC

- System of automated conducting classification

Information-bibliographic Department

The main purpose of the department - is operative maintenance of information needs of users. By inquiries of users the profound information search in the removed electronic catalogues and databases is made. Applications for electronic delivery of documents, both from the removed databases, and from own funds of NABRK are accepted. Bibliographers make individual expert consulting for priority groups of users: Administration of the President, Parliament and Government. Bibliographers form searching tool of library in traditional and digital format.

Book Storage Department

Sectors of storing main collections are arranged on the first and fifth floors (in all seven storage rooms), occupy 6 250 sq.m. of the total area of the library; they are intended for constant storing and using more than 1.5 mln hard information medium and other printed publications.

Basic Department Functions:

· Scientific arrangement management and storing basic library collections;

· Ensuring maximum preservation and safety of library collections. Accurate and timely record keeping of library collection. Organization of maximal completeness of acquisitions and storage for national literature collection;

· Establishment of optimal physical-chemical, biological, sanitary and hygienic conditions for storing collection;

· Accepting new arrivals from Electronic Catalog Department after book processing;

· Distributing books between structural divisions of the library;

· Providing completeness and efficiency for satisfying users with information requests;

· Organizing work on programmes “KazNEB”, “Book Delivering”, “Collection Circulation” and delivery of ordered books or documents to reading rooms by “telelift” system.

· Promotion of new literature, printings, and other materials by their exposure at library exhibitions.

The following documents are stored in basic collection storage:

· Books and other publications on all the branches of knowledge;

· Kazakhstani publications and materials about Kazakhstan;

· World literature;

· Digital materials;

· More than 1500 periodical items in different world languages.

Book Storage Department is very topical, popular and mobile part of NAB RK.

Scientific-Analytical Center

The Center has basic directions of its activity. They are elaboration of librarianship development programmes in the republic; realization of scientific-analytical efforts in various directions of libraries activity; study of issues of librarianship management and economics; analysis and monitoring of libraries activity of the republic; organization of work on rate setting of library processes; improvement of planning, accounting and reporting; implementation of automation and computerization of library processes; revelation, dissemination and application of new, progressive forms of work into practice of libraries of republic; arrangement of training for library workers; accomplishment of business trips with rendering practical and consultative help; publication of methodological text-books for helping libraries in their work.

User Services Department

User Services Department numbers 9 reading rooms. The reading rooms can serve simultaneously 500 individuals.

· General reading room for 100 seats.

· Periodicals reading room.

· World literature reading room.

· Art literature reading room.

· Reading room for readers with disabilities.

· India Study Centre.

· Development Information Center.

· Reading room for researchers.

· “American Corner”.

Informational technologies service

Informational technologies service is created with the purpose of efficient control electronic resources of NABRK, including databases, electronic catalogue, web-portals, thematic network projects.

Mainstreams of activity of service are tracking, estimation, testing and providing of access to the distant databases and electronic catalogues of the largest holders of the information distant and the near abroad. By inquiries of users the profound information search in the distant electronic catalogues and databases is made, applications for electronic delivery of documents, both from distant databases, and from own funds of NABRK are accepted. Besides the service of management of electronic resources defines document files for creation of digital libraries, formation of own electronic collections of the literature.

Centre of Cultural Programmes and Exhibitions

Main goals of the Centre:

· promotion of Kazakhstan book, Kazakhstan writers creativity, further increase of significance of Kazakhstan book culture in upbringing and forming of new generations, attracting users to reading;

· inculcation of deep respect to historical past of the Kazakh nation, to cultural heritage, centuries-old traditions and customs which assist in strengthening of morality, spirituality, intellectual qualities of the rising generation, and also upbringing of patriotism, civicism of readers by advocacy of the Kazakh nation historical heritage;

· popularization of book and reading;

· strengthening of close connections between library and representatives of creative and public intelligentsia of Kazakhstan.

Basic forms of activity:

· organization of book exhibitions devoted to state holidays, significant dates, creative work of writers and poets, public figures;

· conduction of creative events, book presentations, literary meetings;

· holding of cultural-mass events dedicated to folk holidays, traditions and rites;

· organization of art exhibitions.

Centre includes exhibition and ethnographical rooms. The rooms function by organization of book exhibitions, cultural-mass events and excursions.

In the ethnographic room, fragments of historical events in Kazakhstan, monuments of the ancient city of Turkestan such as Khodzha Akhmed Yassaui architectural complex of XII-XIV centuries, panorama of great battles, design of the Golden Man found in Issyk barrow in Almaty oblast reproduced on colourful panel are presented in united composition. Yurta, a unique dwelling, is decoration of the room. It is shown in section, and visitors acquaint with great interest with interior of the yurta which is represented by antique life items and applied art goods. They are baskur, tekemet, alasha, syrmak, and korpeshe. Culture of the Kazakh nation is represented by such exhibits as Kazakh national clothes, national musical instruments – dombra and kobyz, figures made of leather stylized as stone “bal-bal”, accoutrement, dzhigit armour; jewelry – beads, earrings, patterned belts, etc. In the room, readers can read literature on ethnography, Kazakh people history, and acquaint with disks on subjects.

Scientific-Organizing Center

The center provides programme-purpose planning of main areas of scientific and operational library activity, planning, reporting, formation of normative documents, forming of database on basic constituent documents of the library, coordination of main events, account and registration, follow-up action, improvement of work with documents. The Center staff participates in conducting scientific conferences, seminars of different levels, provides organizational support of international library activity. It works on introduction of electronic circulation of documents using the newest technical devices and programmes.
