READER'S MARATHON

Dear readers! You could conduct a reader's marathon during the Action “One Country – One Book”. This article is for your attention concerning aims and tasks of the reader's marathon.

A reader's marathon is one of the most effective ways of reading promotion. Aim of the reader's marathon is to interest people in reading, revive forgotten literary names and traditions, recognize prominent poets and writers, literary critics and book illustrators.

A national reader's marathon emphasizes the nation's unity, presence and firmness of moral values system including a book, deep ethnic memory and traditions continuity. At the same time, it forms and strengthens feeling of membership of separate individual to social community, emphasizes his/her personal significance. A person is proud of being a part of the nation created splendid literature, great writers and poets. It is an excellent form of developing citizenship, patriotism, tolerance (ethnic, religious, social).

Organization of reader's marathon is rather difficult process. Usually a centre is formed for work coordination (plan of reporting in the mass media, press-release preparation, lists of participants, lists of responsible people for separate areas of work, providing with transport and medical staff, safety control and so on). The plan of marathon has to contain time of the marathon beginning, name of the person opening the action. As a rule, it is a famous political or public figure. Book and time for reading are stipulated in advance. Radio and TV play an important role as they can simultaneously transmit the action happening in various places. It's important to engage professional elocutionists. Availability of good equipment (microphones, video- and movie cameras, photo cameras, tape recorders), colourful transparencies and banners with the marathon logotype is obvious.

Important question is rewarding of participants especially at children's marathon. A list of nominations can be diverse. For example, “To the youngest participant”, “For the most expressive reading”, and etc.

Organization of reader's marathon is complex, but attractive, resulting and prospective form of work with readers.
