Opening of National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NABRK) in 2005 was the appreciable event in cultural life of capital.

Developing intercultural cooperation and uniting capital communities the library became a place of carrying out of exhibitions, presentations and meetings. During 2006, 2007 and the first half-year of 2008 more than 200 various actions has been carried out in NABRK.

Our library is a platform for humanists, center of tolerance, social center, dialogue ground, dialogue at all levels - state, international, interethnic. Sessions of Public Chamber under Mazhilis of Parliament, sessions of Public Board on realization of state program "Cultural heritage", the Commission of Human Rights under President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, scientifically-practical conference, devoted to the 15 anniversary of Kazakhstan in UN, "round tables", devoted to globalizations processes in the modern world, to development of a civil society etc., passed here.

Among realized projects to support the reading, the brightest one was the international Congress of Reading " Reading society is basis of the competitive country " under aegis of UNESCO and International federation of library associations (IFLA). Well-known scientists, theorists and experts of library business from 12 countries of near and far abroad (USA, Canada, Germany, France, Great Britain, Mongolia, Iran, Cuba, Russia, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan); representatives of Embassies of foreign organizations accredited in Kazakhstan, publishers, scientists, workers of educational and cultural sphere, as well as about two hundred heads and employees of libraries of our country have taken part in the work of forum. Among speakers of the international forum there were well-known Kazakhstan writers Abish Kekelbayev, Fariza Ungarsynovna, Sherkhan Murtaza, Aldan Smail, Kuljash Akhmetova, Bakhyt Kairbekov, etc. During work of the Congress wide discussion of world experience on promotion of culture of reading took place. Such important themes, as creative and educational function of reading, role of libraries in formation of common cultural and professional competence of the creative person and mental potential of the country, introduction of modern successful technologies of familiarizing with reading have been discussed. Participants of the Congress considered a problem of reading in a complex. Work of various sections testifies to it - section FAIFE/IFLA (Committee on free access to the information and freedom expression of ideas) " Reading as the dangerous tool ", " Electronic resources ", " Reading country " on which representatives from different countries have acted with their national programs of reading. The section " Children's reading " was also interesting. Within the limits of it, plenary session and discussion " What books attract children today? " has passed with participation of Kazakhstan and foreign writers, schoolboys of Astana. Problem discussion on a theme " What should and what can do writers and librarians to make people read?” took place in days of work of the Congress on " round table " “The Book and civilization “ with participation of known Kazakhstan writers Akim Tarazi, Dukenbai Doszhan, Duken Masimkhan, Mereke Kulkenov. The international Congress of reading has shown that the society is not indifferent to the problem of reading. And it means, we do not stay on a place, we move forward. The theme of reading has been continued through the republican action " One country - one book ", devoted to " Book of Words " of Abai. In all regions meetings, creative evenings, discussions have passed. During the action librarians used different forms of work with readers. The action has united thousands of Kazakh people in desire to read Abai's book, to comprehend his wisdom, to learn more about creativity of philosopher, thinker and scientist. As one of forms of popularization of the book and reading, the Action " One country - one book " has proved its viability and necessity. Ways of perfection of the action are unlimited. Now selection of the book for reading by all country for 2008 is passing.

Interest to the book, to its reading stimulate both various own and international exhibitions. It is an exhibition of books published under the State program "Cultural heritage", the International exhibition from funds of the Russian State Library " … people's way won't overgrow … ", devoted to Year of Pushkin in Kazakhstan and others.

The library actively popularizes creativity of known writers and poets. Kazakhstan writer M.Shakhanov together with the French Alliance in Astana has lead presentation of his play in French " Secret which has been carried away by Chingizkhan ". Meeting with Winners of State premium of the Republic of Kazakhstan of 2006 - poetess Kuljash Akhmetova and writer Aldan Smail has interestingly passed. The library met participants of VII International poetry festival – Day of Abai - outstanding Russian, Ukrainian and Kazakhstan poets and writers - Andrey Dementyev, Nikolay Perejaslov, Vladimir Bojarinov, Rustem Zhangozha, Rollan Seisenbayev, Kakimbek Salykov, Kairat Zhumagaliyev, Nore Chernova, Bakhytzhan Kanapyanov. Honored guests leaded the master-class for young poets of Astana and met readers of library.

Solving problems of granting to citizens of capital the advanced development in the field of knowledge, the international public lecture hall under NABRK was opened. Within the limits of the Contract about cooperation between NABRK and Moscow State University named after Lomonosov, the academician, rector of Moscow State University - Sadovnichy V.A, and MSU professors - Doctor of Philology Piskunova S.I. and doctor of physical and mathematical sciences Tomilin A.N., have acted with lectures. As has been noted by director of the Kazakhstan branch of the Moscow State University -Sidorovich A.V. " The contract about cooperation it is a contract in that sphere which accumulates knowledge, which creates a platform for future generations in order to make them cleverer and stronger, therefore cooperation in the field of library business, in the field of libraries and on the basis of libraries gives more than simply cooperation in any other area. It will serve to the progress of Kazakhstan ".

Realizing work direction on humanistic education, education of culture of the world and nonviolence, the project “Center of intercultural Dialogue” is realized in library. The center, involving and uniting various, and including socially unprotected layers of population, promotes social adaptation and integration of various groups of the population into new cultural environment.

The big interest to activity of library is shown by Embassies of various countries in Astana. Together with Embassy of India in 2006, The India study Center was opened in Astana. Through the library, India becomes closer, as our readers mark. Together with Embassy of Italy the opening of seventh Week of the Italian language in the world " Italian language and the sea “ took place in Astana. In 2006 the sixth week of the Italian language also passed in NABRK. So NABRK has positive experience of successful cooperation with Embassy of Italy. We hope, that the tradition of a cultural exchange between Kazakhstan and Italy will continue.

Our capital is visited by presidents and heads of many countries of the world. Within the limits of official visit, visiting National academic library of the Republic of Kazakhstan as cultural, educational and science center of capital is necessarily planned.

The honoured guest of our library became Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr. Sven Alkalaj. During excursion Mr. Sven Alkalaj has emphasized, that opening of National Academic Library is a good sign that the President of Kazakhstan Nazarbayev N.A. pays big attention to culture. Not in all countries it so. In the book of honored guests Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina has made a note in which has expressed the admiration of beauty of library, its hardware and once again has noted, that the attention of the state to library means, what important place in a life of Kazakh people is borrowed by the book. Within the limits of official visit to Republic of Kazakhstan we met the general-secretary of the Organization Islamic Conference Ekmeleddin Ikhsanoglu. Within the limits of official visit to Kazakhstan the library was visited by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Slovak republic mister Jan Kubish. He presented books published in Slovakia in world languages about history, science, regions and culture of Slovak people. According to minister, this modest gift to NABRK will approach the Kazakhstan reader to Slovakia. Certainly, the given gift is only a small part of those riches to which this newest Library in the Central Asia aspires. But it is gratitude for an opportunity to represent Slovak science and culture.

Also the library within the limits of the project " Humanitarian space of the CIS " was visited by the executive secretary of the CIS Rushajlo Vladimir Borisovich. He has presented books to libraries of Kazakhstan.

Within the limits of "Programs of modernization of library sphere on 2007 - 2009 " and actions on preparation for celebrating 10^th anniversary of Astana on 22-23^rd of May, 2008 in NABRK the First Meeting of young librarians of Kazakhstan took place. The forum promoted fastening of young experts in libraries of Kazakhstan, strengthening of positive image of a library trade, revealing of the most perspective staff with the purpose of recommendation on education in the best domestic and foreign universities. Also on the occasion of anniversary of capital on 19-20^th of June, 2008, in library the international conference " Cultural text of Astana " took place. NABRK is organizer and participant of automobile race “Library salute to Astana! " on a route Karaganda-Ekibastuz-Pavlodar devoted to the 10^th anniversary of Astana (20-25th of June, 2008).

One of the most interesting aspects of library work - is inculcation of deep respect to the historical past of Kazakh people, to its cultural heritage, centuries-old traditions and customs. The ethnographic hall which promotes strengthening of morals, spirituality of readers, and also education of patriotism, civicism of readers through propagation of historical heritage of Kazakh people, functions in NABRK. In an ethnographic hall in uniform composition fragments of historical events in Kazakhstan and the expositions devoted to national culture are presented. On colourful panels monuments of ancient city of Turkestan - Hodzha Ahmed Jasavi's architectural complex of XII-XIV centuries, panorama of great battles, and sketch of the Gold man, found in Issyk barrow of Almaty region, are reproduced. An ornament of the hall is the unique dwelling - jurt. It is shown in section and visitors with greater interest get acquainted with furniture of jurt - ancient subjects of life, products of an applied art. These are baskurs, tekemets, alashas, syrmaks and korpeshe. In the hall readers can get acquainted with the literature on ethnography, history of Kazakh people and see disks on these themes. The ethnographic hall of library is a traditional place of carrying out of cultural-mass actions devoted to national holidays, traditions with use of national suits and subjects of olden time. Studying history of native edge, we also study culture of other people. In library an ethnographic exhibition " the Suit of people of Russia in schedule of XVIII-XIX centuries " from funds of the Russian State Library on Art, an exhibition" Nomads of two continents ", organized by Embassy of France in Kazakhstan, an exhibition of the Iranian culture have been carried out.

The perception of library as an open cultural space is promoted by exhibitions of known Kazakhstan artists – Kaliolly Akhmetzhan and Raigul Akhmetzhanova, Telgoziyeva G.K. Amanat Nazarkulov. With success there has passed the Art-therapeutic exhibition of children with limited opportunities of the Creative Center of the art-therapy "Ocean of the Art" " From ocean to drop ". On exhibition the collection of 100 children's works (in baguettes under glass), executed during the art-therapeutic sessions is presented. The Honourable right to expose the works in NABRK has also been given to pupils of Children's art school of Astana. In library 105 best works of pupils borrowed prize-winning places in city and republican exhibitions, and also creative projects of graduates are exposed.

So this is the panorama of cultural-mass and political actions in National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan. All these events have allowed to embody " breath of the present " in activity of library, to realize the role in the new world. Already today it is possible to tell, that the library positions itself as the full partner of the state and society, ready to incur performance of the important welfare problems.
